The Federation of Student Leagues and Organizations from Romania (FSLOR) was established in May 2000, in Paltinis, Sibiu County. At the founding meeting, I was elected Viceprsident, having strong support from Dinu Gindu who was playing an important role in the national student movement at that time. The President of the Federation was elected Cornel Huzau (Snake) from the Student Organization of West University of Timiosara and the other Vicepresident was Radu Volcinschi from the Students’ League from the Maritime University of Constanta.
At that time, there was only one more federation of student organizations, the National Alliance of Student Organizations from Romania (NASOR). We were actually rivals for some time. However, the two federations joined in 2003 under the Presidency of Cristi Dumitru, maintaining the name of NASOR. Cristi followed me as President of the Students’ League from Galati in 2002, when I graduated.
The most important project that I organized as President of FSLOR in 2001, was “Romania in the European Integration.” Together with the other member organizations of FSLOR, we received direct funding from the European Commission and published the brochure “Romania in the European Integration.” A symposium followed in Fall 2001 and then we sent the brochures to the Romanian and European governmental agencies. At the end of the project, I had the most pleasing surprise to receive a congratulating letter from the President of the European Commission, Mr. Romano Prodi and from the European Parliament.
