No independent candidates in Galati City Council

Local elections 2012
Local elections 2012

Unfortunately, no independent candidate has made it to Galati City Council. Although we had together approximately 15% of the votes, none of us reached the minimal threshold of 3,7%. The final configuration of the City Council is: the Social – Liberal Union (the Social – Democratic Party, the National Liberal Party and the Conservative Party) with 19 council persons, Peoples’ Party – Dan Diaconescu with 5 council persons and the Alliance for Progress (the Liberal Democratic Party and the Romanian National Alliance for Progress) – 3 council persons.

I want to thank my colleagues who were part of the project “10 for Galati” (Viorel Zaharia, Antoneta Gafituc, Didel Badarau, Tache Bocaniala, Corneliu Antoniu, Angel Trifan, Florin Nini, Dan Dragoi, Ioan Ungureanu) and Nicusor Ciumacenco, the independent candidate to Galati City Hall, for the extraordinary campaigning experience and the great projects we put together for our home city. At the same time, I congratulate them for the honorable score they got and for the courage they had to fight the political parties in a very tough competition. Nicusor Ciumacenco earned a much higher score than the national average for an opponent of the Social – Liberal Union. I am honored to have had the chance to work with this team of professionists who have great common sense, outstanding professional accomplishments and a modest attitude.

I also want to thank my voters, my supporters and the volunteers who helped us during the campaign. I assure them that I will keep putting together constructive projects for the residents of Galati! I also hope that the new Social – Liberal Mayor and the new City Council will stick to their campaigning promises and I congratulate them for the victory.
