I am beginning a difficult yet very honorable journey today. I want to enrich the City Council of Galati with a more developed sense of initiative, creativity in identifying and implementing solutions to local community problems, more respect for the citizens of this city, and a more constructive approach based on higher returns for taxpayers’ money.

I earned my Bachelor’s and PhD degrees from Lower Danube University of Galati, Romania and earned a Master of Public Policy Degree from Pepperdine University in Los Angeles, CA, United States. During that time, I did my summer internship at Los Angeles Mayor’s Office and worked for Burr Consulting on municipal services reviews. Last year, I worked for approximately four months for Common Cause Georgia in Atlanta, on issues regarding ethics in government. I wish to use this rewarding experience in my hometown of Galati, to contribute to its development and help raise the economic and social standard of living.

I am going to focus my efforts on two main lines of action: economic development and a more efficient relationship with the citizens. As President of the Young Entrepreneurs Association from the South – East Region of Romania, I am well aware of the problems that companies are facing. My colleagues and I are often talking about solutions to boost the economic activity and feel the harmful effects of lack of vision for local development. Citizen engagement is one of my passions. In order for the agenda of public authorities to match the agenda of citizens, I founded SMART Method of Public Policy as a constructive tool of active participation at local, national and international levels.

I am running for the seat of Galati City Council Member at the elections scheduled on June 10, teaming up with Nicusor Ciumacenco who is running as an independent candidate for the seat of Mayor. I met Nicu about two years ago, and had the pleasure to discuss ways to develop the activity of young entrepreneurs and identify more efficient means of local policy making. As Deputy Mayor of the City of Galati, Nicu also contributed to generating the first success stories of civic engagement under the framework of SMART Method of Public Policy. He is young, has experience in managing a local administration, knows how to deal with political parties, and showed ethical conduct that is  lacking so much in the Romanian public administration system.

I also need help for this endeavor. The first step is to get 3000 – 5000 signatures. Anybody who wants to help my campaign can contact me at email roprea2000@gmail.com or download the signature form and send it to the address str. Brailei nr 134A, ground floor, next to teh Orange Shop from Tiglina II. The schedule is 9.00 – 11.00 (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and 16.00 – 18.00 (Tuesday and Thursday) (thank you!).
