SMART Method of Public Policy entered the Dell Social Innovation Competition

Do you have an idea that could change the world? This is the challenge the University of Texas at Austin and Dell launched for students worldwide. SMART Method of Public Policy has that potential through its mission–to engage people in providing valuable, sustainable and feasible solutions to problems of public concern–and its online citizen engagement platforms.
The IDEA of the method can be seen on the contest’s page and can be voted, commented and promoted. Here is its registered presentation:
SMART Method of Public Policy allows any person to create his/her own advocacy campaign in five steps. It combines civic engagement tools with public policy analysis to address important participation problems. The main component of the method is its online citizen engagement platform that makes the participation process interactive, straightforward and leveraging.
- In Step1, a concerned citizen can raise a problem of public concern on the citizen engagement platform available at www.public-policies.eu for Europe. The problem is checked by an administrator and a problem’s page is generated.
- In Step2, people offer solutions to the problem, on the problem’s page.
- In Step3, a policy paper endorsing the best solution/s is issued by the project staff, officially sent to decision makers and published on the problem’s page.
- In Step4, a response is received from the target institution and published on the problem’s page.
- In Step5, the person who had raised the problem can agree with the action or response of the target institution or not. If not, the process is started again from Step2. If yes, the process becomes a success story of participation.
