Mentorship and START YOU Project
Mentorship and START YOU Project

The START YOU Project is aimed at facilitating the transition of high school and college students aged 16-35 to the active life. It has established seven START-UP centers for young people in Bucuresti, Galati, Bistrita, Sibiu, Iasi, Slatina, and Ineu, where they are benefiting from activities aimed at developing their entrepreneurial and personal skills.

The Mentorship activities are essential to shape the attitude of young people towards entrepreneurship. The members of the target group have now the chance to benefit from the experience, knowledge, and advice of a mentor, which are valuable resources for young people who are at the beginning of their career. A mentor is that person who can guide you in building your career. The mentor will show you a well-organized style of thinking, a structure for your own business and a well-designed mechanism that the young entrepreneur may apply. Mentors usually sit on the seat that young people are longing for, they build good relationships with the ones who share their lessons and often provide constructive criticism to their mentees. Choosing the right mentor may make the difference between success and failure. So, if you are a high school or college student aged 16-35 and consider that a mentor is a valuable resource for your professional development, I invite you to attend the Mentorship activities by signing up here.

The START-UP Center from Galati is organizing six Mentorship activities in February and March/April 2011. Five of them will take place at Zeba Restaurant from Galati and one in Braila. Thus, the high school and college students have already met Daniel Tutu who is Manager of Gitana Beauty Center. They discussed about the profile of the young entrepreneur, funding sources for start-up businesses, types of businesses that are more applicable to young people, the importance of studying abroad, and the importance to develop different types of businesses so that they support one another in times of hardship. On February 21, the young people will meet Iulian Pufu, Manager of 3Media Ltd and on February 22 they will meet Cezar Amariei, Founder of Actiunea Newspaper. The remaining three Mentorship activities have not been scheduled yet, but they will be hosting Nicusor Ciumacenco, Deputy Mayor of Galati City, Iulian Filimon, young entrepreneur from Galati and Cristi Seandru who is an entrepreneur from Braila. Every meeting is scheduled to last for approximately three hours and the participants have the chance to learn how the invited entrepreneurs turned ideas into real businesses, have the chance to receive advice about starting and managing a business, have the chance to ask questions about what is it like to be an entrepreneur, and will learn about funding opportunities.
